This wasn't something I thought of, so credit to my friend..
Outside an outpost somewhere on the way to Chantry of Secrets is a large large set of several groups of rain beetles. They drop Geode's which can salvage into rubies.
I farmed it once for a test, I got 4 geodes, 2 turned into dust and 2 turned into ruby's. Maybe I was lucky, but it's better than waiting for them to drop randomly

extremely lucky ive salvaged at least 50 of those and havent gotten one, just dust. But geodes and Water/Fire/diamond djinn essences are the best your gunna get at farming rubies/sapp/diamods.

I farm the Hidden City of Ahdashim with my 150hp necro. the essences have salvaged into a total of 5 diamonds, 3 rubies, and a sapphire. that's a grand total, mostly depends on luck. tbh, you'd be better off farming pure gold and buying the gems imo.

To obtains these gems by salvage depend a lot on luck.
If you are going to use this method, you aren't getting your vabbi amour any sooner.
Instead, farm for money and buy trade contracts or buy it off directly from players. It is much faster and reliable.

Hidden city
white-gold jeweled daggers salvage into gems, much higher % then collector drops, same goes for ruby daggers.

I'll second ShadowsRequiem comment and add Ruby Mauls to that. Whenever I get a jeweled or ruby item I add a "Measure for Measure" inscription to it. Don't know if it helps before salvaging... I get my rubies and sapphires from these items.

A friend of mine got 3 rubies yesterday from salvaging gold ruby daggers with a highly salvageable inscription on it. I know he was extremeley lucky but it's just to show that it is possible.

I tried the geode method. I got around 100 of them and from the salvaging I got 2 rubies. As far as a method to get rubies, geodes are not very fast. However, seeing as the rain beatles drop more than just geodes, I still made out OK for the time spent. I guess if you are looking to farm, you might as well farm the rain beatles because they drop loot like anyone else, and they also happen to drop a salvage item than MAY turn into the gems.
That said they are sooo many better farms then the rain beatles you could probably just make more gold and buy them elsewhere.
So essentially nothing new from me, copy and paste the people above

I used A/E - the same build for the UW solo. Some groups took a few attempts since they spread, but alot of them grouped nicely ^^

Do you farm in HM, and do you use an expert or regular salvage kit? I never figured out if using expert for mats does anything extra

Vehjin Mines - I used to farm before Hard mode was introduced and you get a lot of ruby/jeweled daggers. Slap the Measure for Measure mod on the blue/purple/gold daggers and expert salvage for rare materials. Even the white daggers salvaged into a ruby/sapphire on rare occasions.
Builds I used before were 55 SV necro and Rt/Me VWK. I would assume a 55 mo/d would work as well as the 330 Rt. Earlier this year, they added an enchant stripper so be careful. This used to be a very profitable run before loot scale. I have not tested out hard mode there.
I farmed and bought around 200 geodes and I only salvaged maybe 4 gems out of the lot.

only difference is that with an expert / superior you can outsalvage updrades .. and with normal you just get the crafting materials...
however a superior = 10 normal salvages wich gives you more room in you inventory

all those are good i found out a good way to farm for Gems is doing the LB Farm near Dzag.Bastion. doing the run on HM and killing the Elementals in that row will drop Essences and Ruby Weapons. I salvage Grape Ruby weapon and got a Ruby from it. Here following you can try to farm for Gems
Hidden City(Warrior+Bonder Build-works very well there)-Farm that area. Me personnal i got 8 Geodes in 1 run before HM was released all were dust but it good way to try for.
Outside from the Dzag Bastion where Elementals are at
Other side of Dzag Bastion a little fight but there a huge mob of Beetles good for Geodes
CR Mirror of Lyssa(HM) if lucky a gold Ruby might drop and put a Measure and Measure might get Gems. My Guild Leader friend got 16 Rubies of 2 Ruby weapons before HM hit. He said he got 7 off one.
I dont know if will helps but the places i look into for Gems.
